So I figured it was about time that I made a few posts about our holiday addition to our family….Miss Snowflake. Snowflake arrived on the day after Thanksgiving last year, 2013. My girls had watched the “Elf on the Shelf” movie a couple days prior, in which my oldest daughter, then 5 years old stated that she didn’t believe in “elf” and that there is no way our family would ever get one. Low and behold, a few days later there was a knock on the door. Kahlen went to answer the door, at which time she found a package on her doorstep. I wish I would have had a video of when she realized that our family had gotten an elf. I believe it went something like “Mom mom look at what was on the doorstep!! It really is real! I can’t believe it’s really real!” It was amazing to see her eyes light up with excitement. I wish I could go back to that age when I believed in the magic of Christmas and Santa…those were the good days.
We read the book that comes with “elf” and it says that we have to name “our elf”. It didn’t take more than two seconds for “Snowflake” to come out of my daughter’s mouth. I sometimes wonder if she had a name picked out beforehand, “just in case” an elf would would show up at our house.
So from that day on, Snowflake would return to the North Pole every night to report to Santa on the days’ events and on how well behaved the girls were. She’d come back the next day in a different spot, sometimes doing fun and amusing things. Other times (especially when mom was tired lol) she would just find herself in a different location in the house. ย Another important note, Kahlen (Ashlee was too young at the time to really understand) had to make sure she did not touch Snowflake, for if she did, Snowflake would lose her magic…
Here are some pictures from 2013 of the things Snowflake got herself into….

I wasn’t for sure if Kahlen would understand or even remember Snowflake after the hype of Christmas and presents went away. I shouldn’t have underestimated her though. Through the course of the past year, she has mentioned Snowflake more than 20 times. Sometimes completely randomly in the car mentioning how much she “misses Snowflake” and “wishes she would come back and visit” She asked if she would visit on her birthday and every other major holiday there was. Needless to say, when Thanksgiving rolled around this year she was more than ready for her best little “elf” to come back.
On a side note, I definitely underestimated the amount of TIME and work and planning it took to figure out different things to do with Snowflake. I think I might have had more fun with her than Kahlen did! LOL. Even I started to believe again. ๐
Hopefully I can get another post started soon about what Snowflake has gotten herself into for 2014 ๐
